Science Task Force in Tõravere
Science camp (in Estonian “Teadusmalev https://et.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teadusmalev) is an Estonian youth science camp for higher level school pupils who are interested in science and have been active in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) topics during theirs studies, participate in competitions and Olympiads. Camp started in 2012 as part of Tartu Observatory (www.to.ee/eng/ ) summer Academy in cooperation with University of Tartu. In 2015, five participating pupils were supported by Tartu Hansa Rotary Club, since 2016 also Tartu Toome Rotary Club and in 2017 also SME Milrem. Tartu Hansa Rotary and Tartu Toome Rotary Club have supported all together 19 pupils in Science camp.
Pupils were closely working with Estonian student satellite programme and had their “hands in “ Estonian first satellite ESTCube-1 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ESTCube-1) in each camp also winners of Estonian most popular national ETV TV-show Rakett69 (http://rakett69.ee/) were taken part. Science camp and its initiator, professor Mart Noorma won the best prize in the category “New Idea” national Science popularization contest in 2012.
